KFF Health News correspondent Rachana Pradhan appeared on WAMU\u2019s <em>Health Hub<\/em> on Dec. 10 about the change from the Trump administration.<\/p>\n<p>In 2026, the Trump administration <a href=\"https:\/\/kffhealthnews.org\/news\/article\/transgender-patients-us-cancer-registries-trump-only-male-female-unknown\/\">will require<\/a> U.S. cancer registries that receive federal funding to classify patients\u2019 sex as male, female \u2014 or not stated\/unknown. That last category is for when a \u201cpatient\u2019s sex is documented as other than male or female (e.g., non-binary, transsexual), and there is no additional information about sex assigned at birth,\u201d the new standard says.<\/p>\n<p>LGBTQ+ health advocates say that move in effect erases transgender and other patients from the data.
