The patient experience is shaped in every interaction, not just with clinical care. Kaziah Riston, housekeeper with Cincinnati Children\u2019s EVS team, proves that as she makes her daily rounds. Earlier this year, she was given a glowing note from a family that saw her kindness as an action of going above and beyond, which led to her receiving accolades from the hospital as well as a meeting with the president of the hospital. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Speaking with\u00a0Kaziah,\u00a0you will find that she is soft-spoken and even describes herself as a shy person. But she says when she arrives at her unit, she transforms.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I walk into the room, many times it feels like\u00a0family. Talking to them makes me feel super happy about myself. I realize the more I talk to\u00a0them,\u00a0the more\u00a0I can be grateful. It shows that my work\u00a0doesn\u2019t\u00a0go unnoticed,\u201d said Kaziah.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This year, she received kind words from a family whose baby was in the ICU. They said that Kaziah went\u00a0above and beyond\u00a0to help them feel seen and cared for. They called her \u201camazing\u201d and said that her professionalism and kindness\u00a0was\u00a0truly a blessing in such a difficult moment. They wanted to make sure that the hospital knew that she deserved recognition.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Kaziah spoke about the recognition and how it made her feel loved.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cPeople really do love me. Hearing from the family made me feel like a superstar and that\u00a0I\u2019m\u00a0doing something\u00a0very positive. I can do anything that I put my mind\u00a0to. I can really do it.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This note found its way to the Cincinnati Children\u2019s leadership team. Kaziah was chosen for <\/span>short video<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0and a photo shoot for their social media pages. She even got the opportunity to dine with the President and CEO, Steve Davis.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

She admitted that she was nervous about the\u00a0meeting\u00a0but they had a chance to talk about her career and passions, including her desire to become a clinician.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u00a0wanted\u00a0to be a pediatrician since I was little. I always enjoyed being with kids. I have 10 nieces and nephews,\u201d said Kaziah.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Kaziah has been with the EVS team for 3 years. Her supervisor, Operations Manager\u00a0Brady\u00a0Jackson, said\u00a0that this recognition is her time to\u00a0shine\u00a0and\u00a0she\u2019s\u00a0been a welcome addition to the team.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cKaziah is someone I can always rely on. She may be a little shy at first, but once she gets on the floor, she completely transforms. Nominating her for something like this is like nominating the whole team. EVS staff are always there, making a difference, even if they\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0always get the recognition.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Brady said that he manages a great group of young men and women, and Kaziah isn\u2019t the only shining star, but it\u2019s her time to shine this time.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe do have some other \u2018Kaziah\u2019s\u2019 that help us to blend into the hospital and know\u00a0what\u2019s\u00a0important,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
