Crothall Healthcare\u2019s Sterile Processing Services team is helping hospitals strengthen operating room readiness, sterile processing performance, and patient safety through its technology partnership with Ascendco Health.<\/span><\/p>\n

Implemented over the past two years across approximately 25 hospitals nationwide, the Ascendco platform provides real-time visibility into the status, handling, processing, and sterilization pathway of surgical instruments. The platform supports standardized workflows, improved inventory management, stronger post-procedure compliance tracking, and enhanced process accountability.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe reduced processing time elevates the quality of service and the safety we provide to each hospital,\u201d said Afif Escheik, National Director of Sterile Processing Services for Crothall Healthcare.<\/span><\/p>\n

Crothall Healthcare\u2019s partnership with Ascendco Health, first announced in 2024, has delivered measurable operational and compliance improvements across participating hospitals. Once the system is established, Crothall has increased visibility into sterile processing-related defects by 92%, including missing indicators, foreign material, tray errors, and other process defects. That visibility has supported targeted education programs and helped reduce overall risk events to less than 1% across the managed portfolio, with select facilities achieving performance as low as 0.4%.<\/span><\/p>\n

The platform has also increased visibility into post-procedure non-compliance by 90.2%. These findings include instruments returned from the operating room without proper precleaning, instruments not kept moist, and items not returned to their corresponding trays. Baseline data showed post-procedure non-compliance at approximately 53% across facilities. Through improved visibility, education, accountability, and daily operational execution, Crothall has reduced post-procedure non-compliance by 20% year over year and is currently steady at an approximate 13% defect rate across managed facilities.<\/span><\/p>\n

The partnership has also enabled Crothall and Ascendco to design custom dashboards tailored to Crothall\u2019s Sterile Processing Services program and multi-facility Key Performance Indicators. These dashboards give leaders visibility across managed facilities and allow them to determine whether sites are meeting or exceeding performance expectations. Customized technician workflows further support standardization by helping teams follow the correct reprocessing pathway and avoid preventable process errors.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe software gives us visibility across each location and provides the information needed to make timely decisions,\u201d Escheik said. \u201cWhen a sterile processing leader needs to correct a potential issue, they can intervene quickly and support the right process before the problem affects patient care or operating room readiness.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

According to Andy Petrovich, National Vice President of Sterile Processing Services for Crothall Healthcare, the collaboration has allowed Crothall to tailor technology-enabled solutions to the operational needs of its healthcare clients.<\/span><\/p>\n

Crothall leaders emphasize that Ascendco is a valuable tool, but it is not the sole reason a facility meets or exceeds Key Performance Indicators. The platform helps create structure, data visibility, and workflow accountability. Sustainable performance improvement is achieved through the combination of technology, leadership, process standardization, and daily execution, supported by Crothall\u2019s operating model, onsite leadership, technician training, quality audits, production management, instrument inventory discipline, and partnership with perioperative services.<\/span><\/p>\n
