{"id":648,"date":"2024-09-19T05:09:54","date_gmt":"2024-09-19T05:09:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/medical-article.com\/?p=648"},"modified":"2024-09-19T05:09:54","modified_gmt":"2024-09-19T05:09:54","slug":"some-hopeful-trends-on-opioid-overdoses-finally","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/medical-article.com\/?p=648","title":{"rendered":"Some hopeful trends on opioid overdoses (finally)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>While opioid overdoses have been rising for decades, trends in most recent times provide us a glimmer of hope.  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2024\/09\/18\/nx-s1-5107417\/overdose-fatal-fentanyl-death-opioid\">NPR reports<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p>For the first time in decades, public health data shows a sudden and hopeful drop in drug overdose deaths across the U.S.<br \/>\u201cThis is exciting,\u201d said Dr. Nora Volkow, head of the National Institute On Drug Abuse [NIDA], the federal laboratory charged with studying addiction. \u201cThis looks real. This looks very, very real.\u201d<br \/>National surveys compiled by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention already show an unprecedented\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/nchs\/nvss\/vsrr\/drug-overdose-data.htm\">decline in drug deaths of roughly 10.6 percent<\/a>. That\u2019s a huge reversal from recent years when\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/nchs\/pressroom\/nchs_press_releases\/2024\/20240515.htm\">fatal overdoses regularly increased<\/a>\u00a0by double-digit percentages. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/nchs\/nvss\/vsrr\/drug-overdose-data.htm\">Data from the CDC<\/a> is below.
