To celebrate Tom Racobaldo’s upcoming retirement, Compass One Healthcare leaders who have worked closely with Tom over the years were asked to describe his impact on operations, culture and their lives. Their responses show the gratitude, respect and admiration each person has for Tom:
Bobby Kutteh, CEO, Compass One Healthcare
Tom has been the complete leader for our organization. His capability, steadiness, and character are unmatched. He’s a great business leader who always achieved outstanding results, but he did it by never sacrificing his personal values. He treats everyone with kindness and respect, and his family always comes first.
Another key to Tom’s success has been his ability to bring people together. One of my best memories is what he did to win the Ascension business. This was many years ago when Crothall and Morrison were separate companies. We had never worked together, but Tom helped unite our two companies with a collaborative spirit to include food services and housekeeping. And he never doubted we could do it. He just kept all of us focused on the prize. There were other accounts where he did the same, but this is the one I always remember because Tom was at his best – determined to have us succeed.
Mike Villani, CEO, Crothall Healthcare
Tom will be remembered as the person who built this company from the ground up. He was an integral part of every aspect of our growth, and Crothall would not be the company we know today without Tom. I’ve learned so much from the way he approaches the business. It’s just so calm and cool. Regardless of what’s going on, he never gets too high, never gets too low. I hope I can emulate that approach.
Bruce E Bashwiner, Division President, Facilities Management
Tom has been my only mentor for more than 30 years. He took a chance and promoted me to a regional director of operations in 1997. For my first role as vice president, Tom convinced me to relocate my family to Miami in 2000. Then he brought us back to Pennsylvania and supported me in the advancement of my Crothall/Compass career until 2003.
After leaving Crothall in 2003, Tom and I stayed connected until I returned after being gone for 16 years. When he called to see if I would return, the decision was simple. Very few people in anyone’s professional life take the time to truly make a difference in the lives of those they are responsible for. That’s the only way Tom knows how to do it.
Greg Osganian, Division President, Patient Transportation
I’m extremely thankful and grateful that Tom took a chance on me seven years ago to lead the Patient Transportation Division. Under Tom’s leadership, I’ve learned the power of being patient and steady for our teams; to be humble and honest in everything you do; to invest in and take care of your people, and the importance of family.
I can’t thank him enough for the impact he has made on me and will work to pay it forward to future leaders of the company
Tom leads with kindness and integrity. He has always been there to provide a “gut check” for all of us to do the right thing, whether that meant for a client or our people.
Further, we always felt his trust. He allowed us the room to manage and supported us but there was also accountability. I always felt that he listened to us and supported us.
Larry Stebelsky, Division President
Tom is an exceptional leader who comes along once in a lifetime. I personally strived never to disappoint Tom. Few in the industry possess the rare combination of strong leadership and genuine care for each individual, which is a significant reason for the company’s success.
His unique talent lies in mentoring others through thoughtful advice and real-life examples. As a 30-year veteran of our company, I can confidently say I have never heard a negative word about Tom and his leadership—never.
Kevin Yon, Division President
There are so many things that stand out to me about working with Tom and his impact on the organization. If there is one characteristic that people will remember, it is his incredible integrity and commitment to always doing the right thing.
In today’s ever challenging business environment, I can’t begin to tell you just how much we all value his leadership and absolute confidence that we as a company, will always do what’s right. The “right thing” isn’t always the easiest or most cost-effective thing, but Tom has continually shown us it is always the right thing. We’re all grateful for the values and leadership approach he’s instilled within all of us.
